Clearing FAQ's
Get your facts straight!
QWhen does clearing begin?
The clearing period begins Thursday 18th August 2011.
QWhat is clearing?
Clearing is used after the A-Level results are published in August. It is designed to help students without a university or college place find vacancies on higher education courses.
All applications through UCAS must be made by 30th June. If an application is made to UCAS after this date, and before the final deadline of 20th September, the application will not be sent to any universities or colleges and the student will automatically be entered into the clearing process. This means that there is no option to state first, second and third institution choices and those students will be limited by availability in their choice of university or college.
Following delivery of A-Level results in August, UCAS will publish course vacancies on their website. Students that do not yet have a confirmed place on a university or college course can view available courses and contact the institutions that interest them to make a late application for their programme.
QAm I eligible for clearing?
You are eligible for clearing if you have previously applied through UCAS and are in one of the following situations:
- You have not yet applied for a university course
- You hold no offers from universities or colleges
- You have declined or not responded to offers made to you
- Your offers have not been confirmed as you have not received the necessary grades required to study the course/ at the university of your choice
- You have applied late/ after the application deadline to be considered before clearing
