Anyone who successfully completes a travel programme at Greenwich School of Management knows that they have received professional training together with unrivalled opportunities and support in launching their career in the travel industry.

There is a large variety of jobs in the travel industry. Past students are now working in the following sectors, both in the UK and overseas.

Airline
Either based at the airport working in Customer Services, including check-in, flight information and ticket desk, or based in city-centre offices handling computerised reservations and fare enquires.

Travel Agency
The high street travel agent is the most public face of the travel industry. Most business is involved in selling pre-packaged holidays through a viewdata computer system. Travel Agents also deal with scheduled air services, accommodation, rail travel, cruises, car-hire and many other areas.

Tour Operator
In London alone, there are thousands of tour operators of all sizes packaging and selling inclusive holidays from the UK to all parts of the world. Some offer a general selection of holidays, whilst others specialise in a particular activity or destination. Employment opportunities may be in reservations, overseas administration, operations or marketing.

Business Travel (Travel Management)
Business Travellers can be the most demanding, requiring a professional approach and high degree of confidence. Business Travel Consultants must be able to advise on itinerary planning, the best deals on complicated air itineraries, and to organise hotel and car-hire reservations, visa applications, insurance, conference facilities and much more.

Incoming Operations
A large percentage of travellers are those who come from across the world to visit the United Kingdom and the rest of Europe. Incoming Tour Operators organise all the accommodation details, together with restaurants, sight-seeing, transfers and ancillary services.

Overseas Representative
This is the front line of the holiday industry – with the tourist at the destination resort. The ‘rep’ would organise transfers, excursions, entertainment, and sort out any problems that may occur on the spot.

Tourist Information
Any area around the world that attracts tourists (including Greenwich) will have a tourist information office. This will generally be a provider of information about local attractions and services, but may also be able to reserve such services.

Conferences, Incentives and Event Organisation
This is a growing and very important facet of the business travel market. Conference organising is a very complex business –hiring venues, together with accommodation and back-up facilities. Similarly, a holiday as an incentive for good work performance is a booming market for the travel industry, and one which can be highly lucrative.
