Virgin Atlantic are the major providers of Fares and Ticketing Courses in the UK.There are two levels, and each are recognised by IATA (International AirTransport Association), the controlling body of scheduled air services.

Courses are designed to be practical and to prepare students to use their new skills in a working environment.The comprehensive professional manuals and reference material that are provided help each student to follow the classes and understand the subjects taught.

Levels One and Two may be studied during the day, two evenings per week or Saturday Mornings and are included in the Diploma in Airline and Travel Studies


Air Travel Level One

 Daytime (1½ days per week): 6 weeks
 Evenings: 8 weeks
 Saturdays: 10 weeks

This course is ideal for those seeking an introductory course to the Airline andTravel Industries.

The programme is designed for those who are looking for skills and a qualification which will help them establish a career in the airline or travel industries. It is also suitable for those who have been working in the industry and require specific air travel training and IATA recognition.

On completion of this module, students will be able to:

  • Define IATA geographical areas and Global Routing Indicators
  • Interpret various airline codings
  • Identify differing fare types and their characteristics
  • Select the lowest applicable fare for point to point itineraries with reference to fare rules
  • Calculate fares applying the fundamental principles of the mileage system
  • Construct fares using NUCs and the IATA rates of exchange for a range of currencies
  • Interpret all ticket types
  • Complete MPDs/MCOs for airport ticket issue


    Air Travel Level Two

     Daytime (1½ days per week): 6 weeks
     Evenings: 8 weeks
     Saturdays: 10 weeks


    A programme designed to enable students who have passed Level One or equivalent to further their air travel studies to a higher level and to gain a further IATA qualification.

    Students will become proficient in more complicated fare construction and ticketing procedures, important skills particularly in the field of BusinessTravel (Travel Management).

    On completion of this module, students will be able to:

  • Construct fares for multi-sector journeys, applying the mileage system, higher intermediate points and minimum fare checks
  • Apply add-ons to construct unpublished fares
  • Calculate fares for journeys with surface sectors
  • Calculate fares for journeys involving side trips
  • Construct special fares for multi-sector journeys with and without surface sectors
  • Assess fares for journeys involving different classes of travel
  • Complete automated and manual fare calculation areas

    How to join a Programme

    Complete the application form, indicating the programme you wish to follow, the date you wish to commence the programme, and whether you wish to study full-time, Evenings, or Saturday Mornings.

    Generally, Programmes commence February, June and October each year.

    The completed application form should be returned to the Tourism Department, together with the registration fee (or deposit for part-time programmes), 3 passport-size photographs and copies of your qualifications (if applicable).

    UCAS

    For details of applying for the BSc programme through UCAS, please refer to the separate BSc prospectus.

    Registration and Enrolment

    If you are not qualified for the programme of your choice, the School may suggest an alternative programme that suits your needs and qualifications.

    Your acceptance letter from the School will inform you of the date on which you should enrol and the duration and cost of the programme.

    You should arrive at Greenwich School of Management on the date specified in your acceptance letter.

    You will be expected to make your first fee payment on enrolment, or produce evidence of funding.

    Accommodation

    If you require accommodation throughout the programme, the Accommodation Officer will arrange this on enrolment.

    Further Information

    Tuition fees are payable in advance.

    Tuition fees are non-refundable.

    The Registration fee is refundable should the School be unable to accept you.

    Overseas students are reminded that they must comply with Home Office regulations on immigration, particularly with respect to attendance. A medical certificate must support absences due to illness.

    Programme details are correct at the time of going to press, but are subject to alteration. Programmes will only take place if justified by demand.

    All fees are inclusive of government taxes. Students must adhere to the Greenwich School of Management regulations relating to their programme, a copy of which will be provided on enrolment.

    The School reserves the right to refuse to accept or enrol any student.
