The Greenwich School of Management (GSoM) Bachelors' Degree Extended Programme offers students the opportunity to study their foundation year as part of their bachelors degree programme. Our Extended Degree Programme allows students who hold GCSE or equivalent level qualifications to gain direct access to the degree without having to complete an access programme or A Level or equivalent studies.

The GSoM Bachelors' Extended Degree is awarded by the prestigious University of Plymouth and can be completed in just three years and eight months or through our accelerated pathway of two years and eight months. All of our specialist bachelor programmes are available through the extended pathways with start dates in February, June and October.

Starting Dates

The Bachelors Degree Extended Programme has enrolment dates in February, June and October each year.

Mode of attendance

The Bachelors Degree Extended Programme at Greenwich School of Management can be studied full time only over thirty-two months (two years and eight months).

Programme structure

The first stage of the programme is a Foundation level qualification, studied over two semesters with six taught modules. This initial stage of the programme is designed to prepare students for the Bachelors degree by developing self-confidence, awareness and a solid understanding of the principles of management education.

The next element of the programme consists of three stages; There are six subjects at each stage: three subjects in any semester. Each stage takes eight months (two semesters) to complete.

The whole degree programme including Foundation stage takes two years and eight months (eight semesters) to complete.

Assessment

Assessment is made on a continuous basis, taking programme work, group project work and examination results into consideration. Formal examinations take place at the end of every semester.

Continuous assessment throughout the degree, emulates the business environment by placing an emphasis on the consistent intensity of work demands.

Admission Requirements

An applicant must normally be 18 years of age at the start of the programme:

  • Generally, applicants for the programmes will be expected to possess five GCSEs or equivalent overseas academic or professional qualifications
  • Students will require a good command of written and spoken English demonstrated by IELTS 6 (or equivalent) for applicants whose first language is not English
  • Typically, other qualifications are also expected such as post-GCSE qualifications including 'A' level or AS levels, access to HE modules, pre-access qualifications, vocational or advanced GNVQ or equivalent qualifications;
  • In addition
    Other qualifications may be considered. Applications from candidates who lack the normal course entry requirements are positively encouraged. In such cases, the Admissions Tutors must be satisfied that the applicant has the necessary potential, knowledge or experience and motivation to follow the course successfully. Candidates with non standard qualifications will be invited to attend for interview.

Accreditation of prior learning – partial exemptions can be obtained from the Bachelors’ Degree Extended programme subject to the University of Plymouth Academic regulations and dependent on the compatibility of previous study. Each case is considered on its own merit.

Entrants will be interviewed, where possible, to identify their aptitude for study in Higher Education, life or career experience, and other factors relating to professional qualifications. The importance of full engagement with the programme will be stressed at this stage.

How to make an application

To make an application you must send us the following information:

  1. Your completed GSoM Application Form
    Application forms are available in your prospectus pack or you can click the 'Apply' link to the right and complete the form online. If you need any help or advice before completing the application form please call the School and speak to a course advisor who will advise you. You are also welcome to visit the school where we can assist with completing your application.
  2. The GSoM International Student Declaration Form
    If you require a Student Visa to study in the UK you will be required to complete this form. Click here to download a copy of the International Student Declaration Form.
  3. Copies of your qualifications as listed on your application form.
  4. Your CV / Resume detailing your educational and professional achievements.
  5. A Reference from a place of study or an employer. - References must be on letterhead paper, signed and dated by your referee.
  6. A photocopy of the relevant pages of your passport. - For example front cover, personal details page and any pages indicating relevant visas or migration stamps.
  7. The Application Fee of £130. This can be paid by cheque or postal order made payable to 'Greenwich School of Management Ltd'. Credit/Debit Card, or by Bank Transfer (click here for the GSoM account details). The application fee is entirely refundable should you not be accepted.

Registration

On receipt of your application form and enclosures the School will assess your application and:

  1. Accept your application if you are qualified for the programme. (If you are not qualified the School may suggest an alternative programme that suits your needs and qualifications).
  2. Forward to you an acceptance letter and statement of fees. These letters will inform you of the date that you should enrol and the duration and cost of the programme.

Enrolment

  1. You should arrive at Greenwich School of Management on the date specified on your acceptance letter.
  2. You will be expected to pay your tuition fees on or before enrolment. If you would like to arrange a payment plan you will need to visit our Bursar to discuss.


Further Information

  • Tuition fees are payable in advance (instalment plans are available by arrangement).
  • Tuition fees are non-refundable.
  • The registration fee is refundable should the School be unable to accept you.
  • Overseas students are reminded that they must comply with Home Office regulations on immigration, particularly with respect to attendance.A medical certificate must support absences due to illness.
  • Programme details may be subject to alteration.

» Management Principles

Module Description
The management of all organisations have common problems albeit different in scale and technical content. Thus the principles of management have relevance whatever the context, scale and scope of operations. It is incumbent on managers to be aware of the nature of these principles and to be able to apply them to their responsibilities for organising and operating business in their own companies.

» Numeracy

Module Description
It is important for students to be able to present and interpret data in order to understand the other modules on the programmes and as part of their preparedness for undergraduate studies. To achieve these, it is necessary to understand the main forms of statistical data and to apply numeracy skills to identify and resolve management problems in the organisation.

» Personal Development

Module Description
The Personal Development Planning module aims to provide a platform for students undertaking the degree foundation stage. This is intended to facilitate their reflection on the outcomes of the programme and the individual subject areas which are included. Students are enabled to consolidate their learning and to understand linkages to the wider academic community with implications for more advanced studies. The content of the module is designed to develop skills necessary for preparation of studies at undergraduate level in the subject of business.

» Legal Studies

Module Description
This module provides an introduction to the English and EU legal systems and the processes of law creation and interpretations. It reviews the judicial process and the nature of the legal services provided for individuals and organisations involved in the legal process. It also identifies the functions of law in society and how this interrelationship changes over time.

» Computer Literacy

Module Description
In modern business computers are an essential means of storing and retrieving data and of interrelating data. They are vital in establishing communication and information systems. There is hardly any operation unaffected by the use of computers. An awareness of the use of computers and their potential is essential for a wide range of individuals in society.

» Advanced Critical Writing Skills

Module Description
Language is the most fundamental and pervasive tool we have both for interpreting our world and communicating with others. This is especially important in attempting to transform that world. This module will help students to become careful and critical readers; build skills of analytical and interpretive argument; practice writing in a variety of genres, stimulate the process of intellectual inquiry and creative expression, and ultimately become more effective thinkers and communicators, well-equipped for a variety of management careers in our information-intensive society.

» Travel Studies

Module Description
This module is designed to demonstrate methods of determining the individual holiday requirements of passengers. It also illustrates the advantages of organising ancillary travel services to develop turnover.

» Airline Studies

Module Description
This module is designed to demonstrate methods of determining airline fares and introduces the main computerised airline reservation systems. It also illustrates methods of handling contingent problems associated with multi-sector air journeys, and it also includes methods of securing car rental and hotel reservations through the airline’s reservation systems.

» Management for Tourism

Module Description
The module provides an introduction to tourism as an area of academic and applied study. It encourages an understanding of the nature and significance of tourism, its structure and development, and the pattern of trends in tourism activity.

» Academic Writing

Module Description
Preparing for academic studies requires an appreciation of the style of writing which is expected at that level. This module will provide the grounding for this type of engagement. Students will be exposed to various styles of materials and be guided to identify the differences in order to prepare similar ones, thus advancing their own writing versatility.
